How to measure the opening for your bifold doors

Like each home, each aluminium bifold door is also unique – with a range of different openings, accessories and colours, every door is customisable to requirements. Here at UK Doors Online, sleek and modern aluminium bifold doors are handcrafted to our customers’ specifications using the class-leading Alutech BF73 Bifold Door System. We can offer market-leading sash sizes of up to 1200mm wide and 3000mm tall – the only issue is, do you know how to measure the opening for your brand new bifolds?

With our Online Door Designer you can design your perfect bifolds and order them online in just a few easy steps. The first step is always to measure your bifold and, to make things as easy as possible, we will guide you through the procedure:

  • Generally, three measures must be taken (see below), using tape measure to verify the aperture overall, height and width.

  • Initially, measure the height of the aperture in at least three places, left, middle and right. The bi-folding doors will be slightly smaller than what you’ve measured so, as a rule of thumb, take the smallest measurement and deduct 10 mm to obtain the height of your door.

  • Then, measure from outside the width of the aperture in at least 3 different places, top middle and bottom. Again, take the smallest measurement and deduct 10 mm to obtain the width of your door.

  • Lastly, measure the diagonals to verify the aperture is square (D1=D2, see below).
